I care deeply about contributing to more safe, equitable, and regenerative worlds for all.
This is why I am guided by Design Justice Principles and in 2022 Co-founded Design Activists for Regenerative Futures (DARF).
"Protopia, unlike Utopia or Dystopia, is not an end "destination", but rather a process of proactively prototyping radically hopeful and inclusive future visions and possibilities, centering previously marginalized voices." - Monika Bielskyte, @protopiafutures
APPROACH
I take an interdisciplinary approach; integrating Futures Thinking, Systems Change and Trauma-informed practices with Service Design methodologies for more impactful and long-term oriented outcomes, as well as more relational and equitable processes. A trauma-informed approach also means I prioritise the safety, wellbeing, hope and healing of people I collaborate with.
I work in a transparent, adaptable and highly collaborative way. I'm confident with a hybrid approach due to over 10 years experience running projects and facilitating workshops both in-person and remotely, using a range of digital tools such as Miro, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, slack etc.
I'm on an ongoing learning journey of applying systems change practices and a decolonial lens to the eco-social transformation I aim to contribute to. Recognising power, privilege and reflecting with a decolonial lens are critical compasses in my path towards being in right relationship with peoples, land and other-than-human entities.
"For the master’s tool will never dismantle the master’s house. They may allow us temporarily to beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change." - Audre Lorde
Graduating with Distinction from the MEDes (Master of European Design) in 2016 from the Glasgow School of Art, Aalto University in Finland and KISD University in Germany, as well as working across Europe, means I have interdisciplinary and international experience to draw on.
Since then I've held roles at acclaimed design agencies: Board Member and Manager at the Service Design Network (2016-18), Service Designer at Hellon (2018-21), and Lead Service Designer at Futurice (2021-24). Notably, I Co-founded Design Activists for Regenerative Futures (DARF) in 2022.
I've returned closer to my roots in Northern England and currently work as a Freelancer and Lead Service Designer at Futurice based in Sheffield. I stay connected with local grassroots initiatives and organisations to support climate and social justice, and am currently supporting my local branch of the Palestinian led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions group.
